Is the Kastaplast IDOG a Better Innova Teebird?

Unless you haven’t noticed yet, Swedish disc golf manufacturer and House of Discs brand, Kastaplast, has been on a tear recently with new molds. In fact, they’ve had eight all new molds approved by the PDGA in the past two years alone.

Included in those new discs is the IDOG (pronounced E-Dog) a 7 speed driver that comes with a bit of fade and a nice amount of glide. This is the brands first 7 speed, a slight departure from their popular 6 speed discs, the Stig and well known Kaxe.

Watch out Kastaplast IDOG Ratings battle below!

What is the Kastaplast IDOG?

Many of you may already be saying to yourself, “Doesn’t the IDOG have the same numbers of a Teebird, Athena, FD1, Instinct, Explorer, Cookie…etc?” Basically.

The Kastaplast IDOG’s flight numbers are as follows:

Speed: 7

Glide: 5

Turn: -0.5

Fade: 2

Those other discs have less turn, which in theory would make them more stable. The IDOG isn’t merely just a clone. Or is it?

How Does the IDOG Fly?

The IDOG is a great disc. If you are a fan of Kastaplast and are brand loyal, you will be pleased and won’t find any issue adding this fairway driver to your bag.

The IDOG is true to the 7 speed and does have a nice amount of glide. The Kastaplast IDOGs flight path is straight with an always reliable fade. It’s torque resistant and doesn’t seem bothered by the wind, making it great option off both sides.

That being said, the IDOG doesn’t have much turn and flies more like the other discs listed above (i.e. Teebird, FD1, Explorer…) Is that a bad thing? Not at all.

We also can’t forget that Kastaplast is manufactured by House of Discs, which is very consistent with their runs. Players who love overstable runs of Teebirds or FD1s (think the Casey White Sky Walker) will love the new K1 runs of IDOGs.

While we can’t see into the future, it’s easy to imagine a K1 Soft IDOG flying with a touch more turn and the K3 IDOG beating into a straight to understable fairway driver

Comparing the IDOG to the Teebird

If we had to put a run of Teebird up against the current K1 IDOG, Champion plastic comes to mind. Often, Star Teebirds are a bit straighter and offer players a more mellow flight out of the box. Recent Champion and IDYE Champion Teebirds are morse stable and offer better wind resistance.

Much like those runs of Champion Teebirds, the K1 IDOG’s flight path is stable without much turn. Players with a lot of arm speed will find these discs hyper workable while beginner throwers may struggle to find much distance due to the fairway drivers stability.
