Discmania Essence Review
What we all love about the Essence is the understability. Understable, but not too understable. This means that players with a lot of power can still give the Essence a good toss. Just mix in a little hyzer there shouldn't be any fear of turning it over!
Another unique thing about the Essence is the slightly faster speed rating. The majority of fairways are 7-speed, whereas the Discmania Essence is an 8-speed. This makes it feel just a touch more aggressive in the hand. If you're planning on attacking a wooded course you'll want to pick up one of these!
The additional speed rating helps the Essence to travel a tad further and resist turning and burning.
The glide rating of 6 is no hoax! This thing seems to drift down fairways with little to no effort! On top of this, the dome that generates this glide is gentle and even, so it still feels slim and aggressive in your hand!
Backhands
The Discmania is primarily designed and used for backhand. Most players bag this understable fairway driver for silky-smooth turnovers. You can also throw it on tunnel shots, just hyzer flip it for a laser straight flight!
Your Essence will come in handy on technical wooded courses that still require significant distance. Think; Idlewilde, Hornet's Nest, Maple Hill. It's the perfect disc to dial in your gap-hitting, tunnel shots, and tight turnovers!
Forehands
Thinking about picking one of these up for sidearms? It's not a terrible forehand disc, but it's also not a great one. If anything we wouldn't recommend it for forehand to anyone with more power than a beginner.
The reasons are simple. It's a little too understable. It's also slightly domier than what is ideal when it comes to forehands.
If you do want an 8-speed forehand we recommend trying out a TeeBrid3.
Feel
This disc just keeps ticking all the boxes! It has one of the most gorgeous fairway driver feels you'll ever find! We're talking a small rim with a blunted nose, and a gentle and even dome.
When you're on the tee pad with a Discmania Essence in your hand two feelings arise, confidence, and a strange mix of control and aggression! Attacking the course doesn't have to involve bogeys!

Here's a chart to give you an idea of the Discmania Essence's flight path.
Plastics
NEO: Quite possibly the most popular plastic to get an Essence in. A NEO Essence is the most true to flight numbers. On top of this NEO is one of the best-feeling premium plastics on the market right now!
GEO: Unfortunately GEO discs are not very durable. This has made them somewhat unpopular. It's also not ideal as the Essence is already understable.
EXO: Essentially Discmania's EXO is their baseline plastic. Only pick up an EXO Essence if you specifically want more turn, or if you want to beat it into a roller disc.
LUX: Luxury. This disc is the cream of the Evolution plastics. With an excellent feel, plus amazing grip a LUX Essence will not disappoint! You should find these to be true to their numbers.
Meta: Another good lookin' premium plastic from Discmania. A Meta Essence is generally more overstable. This makes it the ideal choice for advanced players with more power!
Forge: Highly durable and grippy plastic. Your Forge Essence will have small metallic flakes in the plastic for a sparkle effect that will bring out your inner Barbie!

Manufacturer - Discmania
Technically speaking the true manufacturer of the Essence is Latitude 64 as they actually make the discs. Discmania recently opened a factory across the street from the Lat 64 plant. They've been producing their Originals Line discs from there since they split from Innova in 2021!

Here is what Discmania has to say about the Essence:
Get ready to experience love at first flight! The Essence is THE do-it-all fairway driver in our Evolution line up. Although the Essence is a great fit for beginner and novice throwers, many pros out there will take a liking to this disc quickly. The rounded semi-blunt nose of the disc allows for fantastic roller shots and controlled backhand or forehand throws when you need it most. If you find yourself on a technical hole out on the course, you’ll reach for the Essence!

Skill Level Recommendations
Beginners - The Essence is a great disc for any beginner. Once you've got the basics of your form down with putters and mids, this disc is your next step!
Intermediate - You don't know what you're missing out on if you haven't tried one of these. The feeling of an 8-speed is somehow just that much better than a 7! It's amazing when you're playing a championship-level course and you need to blend control, distance, and aggression.
Advanced - This disc is your secret to birdieing 300ft-plus technical holes! If you have considerable power and are worried about turning this one over try a Meta Essence!

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Essence good in the wind?
The Essence is great for tailwinds. It's not the most reliable disc when you're throwing into a headwind. The understability and glide make it more susceptible.
Is the Essence good for backhand?
The Essence is any backhand player's dream! It's long and controlled turnovers are to die for. facing a tunnel shot? Just hyzer flip it!
Is the Essence good for forehand?
Let's say it like this, there are better options. The Discmania Essence is a tad more understable and glidey than what is ideal! Rather go for something like a TeeBird3 if you want an 8-speed disc for sidearms.
