Axiom Vanish Understable Distance Driver

The Axiom Vanish is an understable distance driver. This is one of the older discs in the Axiom lineup, it was approved by the PDGA back in 2016! Despite its age, the Vanish is still popular among Gyronauts as an easy-to-throw distance driver.

The Vanish is especially suited to advanced beginners and intermediates. Its combination of turn and fade makes it perfect for massive S-shaped drives. The 11-speed helps you to maintain control even when throwing far.

While the Axiom Vanish is most commonly used for backhand drives, it's also suitable for sidearms. If you have a lot of power put it on a hyzer and watch it flip up, turn, and then gently fade back. Players with less power can release it flat and achieve similar results!Ā

Here's what Axiom has to say about the Vanish:

The Vanish will be straight to understable depending on the thrower and wind conditions. The Vanishā€™s stability profile places it near a threshold of being straight at low power or in tailwinds, and controllably understable at high power or in mild headwinds. As a 21mm class GYROĀ® driver, the Vanish is designed to hit a midpoint of stability between two MVP Disc Sports models, the Wave and Orbital.

This video from Flippy James found the Vanish to fly differently to what was expected!Ā

Flight Numbers

Speed: 11

Glide: 5

Turn: -3

Fade: 2

Many players have found this disc to be more stable than the numbers suggest. If you have a decent amount of power and a flat release point they should be accurate, but the Vanish can also be beaten in for flippier flights!

Plastics

Proton: Highly durable and translucent. A Proton Vanish may be a little more stable than Neutron. You can read our Proton Plastic Review to learn more.

Neutron: Grippy and durable these Axiom Virus's are accurate to flight numbers. You can read ourĀ Neutron plastic review for more information.

Skill recommendations

Beginner:Ā Before moving up to an 11-speed we suggest throwing a 9-speed. Our disc of choice for this is the Axiom Virus. If you've already mastered a disc like this, then the Vanish is a great disc to try out as your new distance driver!

Intermediate: The Axiom Vanish is a great driver for intermediate players. Its turn and fade will make for easy distance! This is a great disc when you don't feel you have the arm speed for something like a destroyer, or an understable 13-speed!Ā

Advanced: Players with a lot of power may find discs like this one too flippy to be their go-to distance driver. If you need a powerful turnover, or you simply need to dial back on power and distance then this is a great disc to have in your bag.

Reasons to Buy an Axiom Vanish

  • Easy to throw distance driver
  • Speed 11 is easier to control than fast drivers
  • Great for S-shaped drives
  • Decent glide
  • Can be thrown sidearm and backhand
  • Comfortable in the hand
  • Because it's Axiom ;)
  • Great turnover disc for advanced players
  • A go-to distance driver for intermediates

When you start out in disc golf, we always recommend using putters and mids. This helps you to develop proper form. If you feel confident with your slower discs then we highly recommend you try out the Virus! Once you feel you've reached your potential with the Virus, then try out a Vanish.
