Axiom Hex Overview

Collection: Axiom Hex Overview

Read on to learn everything about the Axiom Discs Hex, the midrange that flies as far as fairway drivers! PDGA approved in 2021, this is a relatively new midrange. It's made a name for itself with its consistent yet versatile flight, awesome glide, and crazy distance! If you haven't thrown one yet, the Axiom Hex is for sale above. You can witness the hype firsthand.

Many compare this disc to the old-time favorite Discraft Buzzz. Its flight is very similar, except the extra glide gives you some bonus distance. Others consider it a longer MVP Glitch. Although not as straight as the legendary Glitch, the Hex can hold its own when it comes to tunnel shots.

Consider an Axiom Eclipse Hex for an overstable flight, and try the Axiom Fission Hex for a straighter disc that will beat in quicker.

Axiom Hex Review

We have to agree with the masses, this is a disc to build your bag around, not just fill a gap. The Axiom Hex disc is versatile and will hold the line you put it on. You can throw big turnovers, long hyzers, and very straight shots. When out in the open you can expect a decent turn and fade for S shots. You'll get the flight and distance of a fairway driver with even more control!

Comparable to the Buzzz, the added glide rating on the Hex in disc golf is real. While a Buzzz might be considered one of the longer midranges, the Hex flies even further!

The versatility means that the Axiom Hex will be used on any course, open or wooded. This allows you to get familiar with the disc, producing even more consistency! Once you've mastered the Hex there are several plastic types that have slightly different flights. Add disc cycling and it's fair to say that the Hex will fill all the midrange slots in your bag, besides the overstable midrange position.

The Hex is considered by many to be the #1 forehand midrange on the market. If you love flicking mids try an Axiom Hex. The versatility of the disc will allow you to get inventive!

Axiom Hex Flight Numbers

The Axiom Hex's flight numbers are: 5 | 5 | -1 | 1

Speed         Glide Turn  Fade
5 5 -1 1

Although only rated speed 5, the Hex will feel more like a fairway due to the distance it inexplicably achieves! The glide 5 is fairly accurate but might be considered closer to 6. The turn and fade are on point, although intermediate and beginner disc golfers may find it to be a little more overstable.

Axiom Prism Proton Hex

Everyone loves Simon Lizotte, is that why everyone loves the Hex? Although Simon has undoubtedly contributed to the Hex's soaring popularity, the disc itself deserves the lion's share of the credit! It's extremely versatile and somehow flies further than its peers. It's fair to say that the Hex is not like other mids.

Axiom Total Eclipse Leapin' Lizottl' Simon Lizotte Hex

Total Eclipse Leapin' Lizottl' Hex

The Axiom Hex from Simon Lizotte has a stamp featuring a cute little axolotl! This Total Eclipse Hex features a color glow rim and flight plate. The stamp and the glow together make this one of the most popular Hex's to be released.

It's not just aesthetics though. This run of the Hex is said to be more overstable than others. Perhaps it's due to the Eclipse glow plastic. This Axiom Eclipse Hex by Simon Lizotte is for sale above↑!

Axiom Eclipse 2.0 Glow Hex

Axiom Eclipse 2.0 Glow Hex

The stock-run Axiom glow Hex is a great addition to any bag, especially your glow bag. If you weren't quick enough to grab a Lizottl' Hex then this stock run glow Hex is your next best option!

Axiom Fission Hex

Axiom Fission Hex

If you're looking for a super lightweight midrange disc consider the Axiom Fission Hex. Fission plastic is just the same as Neutron, with added microbubbles. Needing a little more turn on your Hex? The Fission Hex might be just right! We do think it wise to use it sparingly on windy rounds.

Axiom Neutron Hex

Axiom Neutron Hex

Neutron is an opaque blend of plastic, often compared to Innova's popular Star material with a slightly stiffer feel. If the hype of special editions is not for you, the Axiom Neutron Hex may appeal to you with its friendlier price tag.

History

The Axiom Discs Hex was PDGA-approved in February 2021

PDGA approved Hex

Since then it's been on a mission to take the Buzzz off its podium for best midrange in disc golf. It's hard to say just how well it's doing, but it's fair to say that the Hex does have some qualities the Buzzz does not. The extra glide pushes this disc further than a Buzzz, and others might well prefer the feel. Either way, the best midrange-in-disc-golf-battle is going to be exciting and is worth keeping an eye on!

Manufacturer - Axiom

Axiom Discs an MVP partner has exploded into disc golf in the last few years. It's no surprise when they keep bringing out awesome discs like the Hex! We can't wait to see what's next. In addition, MVP's signing of Simon Lizotte, and Now Eagle McMahon, has boosted the disc's reach beyond expectations!

Here's what Axiom has to say about the Hex:

Mesmerizingly straight, with flight numbers of 5/5/-1/1, the Hex will find a place in anyone’s bag as a versatile and reliably straight midrange. At the highest arm speeds, the Hex will produce slightly understable lines from flat, but the 1 fade keeps it from flipping over completely. For lower arm speeds, the Hex has enough turn to make shaping lines a breeze. If you are looking for control in the woods, or simply a versatile line shaper, the Hex is the midrange for you. Available in Neutron plastic to start, add some magic to your game with the Hex!

Skill Level Recommendations

Beginners - We'd recommend holding off on the Hex for now if you've just started disc golfing. Consider something more understable to start getting turn and fade from the word go. If you plan to use the Hex to learn forehand then that's not a bad choice.

Intermediate - This disc will fill an absolute must-have spot in your bag. A dependable midrange that can be used for multiple shot shapes will be an absolute workhorse in your lineup!

Advanced - Yes, yes, yes! This is an awesome disc for advanced players. The distance will astound you and the versatility will make you toss out a lot of unnecessary discs, increasing consistency!

Pro - Who's going to argue with Simon Lizotte? This is a disc much loved by MVP's pro team.

Hex For Backhands?

The Hex is possibly the best midrange disc golf disc for backhands in 2024! For long smooth turnovers release it on an anhyzer angle. For forward-pushing sweeping hyzer lines release with a decent amount of hyzer angle. If you want to throw straight shots release it flat and expect a baby fade. You could also beat a Hex in and throw it straight with a small hyzer flip.

Hex For Forehands?

The Axiom Hex is a great choice for a midrange forehand disc. The touch of stability and shallow rim make flicking it a dream! This is a real utility disc on forehands that will be a weapon of worth out in the sticks! You'll also get some decent distance with it out in the open. As your Forehand progresses you may find yourself gravitating toward a more overstable mold.

Pros

  • Straight
  • Versatile yet reliable
  • Easy to throw
  • Lots of glide for more distance
  • Inexplicable distance

Cons

  • Slightly more overstable than what's optimal for beginners. You should work yourself up to this one with putters!

Conclusion

The Axiom Discs Hex is a far-flying midrange that holds a variety of lines. Controllable and a pleasure to throw, its popularity is no mystery! It takes the workhorse midrange spot in most bags and can be beaten in for an understable option. Every edition we have of the Axiom Hex is for sale above↑.

Yes, the Hex is consistent in windy conditions. For the most wind-resistant edition see the Axiom Eclipse Hex. Although good it won't be as consistent as an overstable driver in the wind.

Is the Hex good for backhand?

Yes, the Hex is a fantastic backhand disc! It will hold hyzers and anhyzers, and a flat release will produce a straight flight with a gentle fade at the end.

Is the Hex good for forehand?

The Hex is a great disc to start learning forehand with. Once your skill level increases you should move up to drivers. Even then you will still use the Hex for forehand utility shots, and shorter drives.

What are the Glitch's flight numbers?

The Hex has 5 speed, 5 glide, -1 turn, and 1 fade. It's the furthest flying mid on the market!
