MVP Octane Flight Review

The MVP Octane is a fast, stable distance driver designed to deliver big distance without sacrificing control. Built for players with developing to advanced power, it blends forward push, glide, and dependable fade into a well-rounded flight profile.

On release, the Octane flips up slightly from hyzer and rides forward with a touch of turn. This makes it ideal for long flex lines and wide-open drives where full-flight distance is the goal.

As the disc slows down, it finishes with a consistent fade that brings it back to the center. This late, reliable fade helps keep your drives on target and prevents unwanted turnovers, especially when thrown with power.

Backhand players will appreciate the Octane’s ability to shape full S-curves, while forehand throwers can rely on its torque resistance and predictable finish for controlled distance shots. It also handles tailwinds well, giving it added utility in varying conditions.

The Octane shines in the hands of players with moderate to high arm speed who want a distance driver with just enough turn to shape lines, but enough stability to finish cleanly. It’s a dependable option for maximizing distance while maintaining shot control.

Fission¼ technology has come to the Octane! Combining the raw speed and distance potential of the Octane with our cutting-edge Fission¼ plastic has resulted in a truly impressive max distance driver. In testing at MVP R&D, the Fission¼ Octane presented with a touch more turn than in other plastics – helping it be perhaps the farthest flying Octane yet. With final flight numbers of 13 | 5 | -1.5 | 2, the Fission¼ Octane is going to take your distance to the next level. Plus, thanks to its ultralight core, the Fission¼ Octane is available in weights down to 155g — making it an Octane for all arm speeds! See just where your distance potential is at with the Fission¼ Octane! Octane falls in the general stability lineage of Switch, Amp, Inertia, and Wave, with a slow-turning profile that holds long and straight until its fade finish. The 23mm Octane is designed to be relatively less understable than its 21.5mm counterpart Wave. Average throwers should see straight flights with a bit of shallow turn, while power throwers will be able to hyzerflip for max distance and tailwind lines.

Skill Level Recommendations

Beginner

The Octane might not have the most overstable flight numbers, but as a beginner, not having the power to throw it at full speed will mean that it will fade much more than the numbers suggest. That's why we suggest starting out with slower, understable discs.

Intermediate

For intermediate players, it offers glide and flex potential, making it a solid choice for shaping long drives and managing tailwinds.

Advanced

Advanced players will value its speed and stability for full-power flex shots, both backhand and forehand, with a reliable fade at the finish.
