With the brand new run of stock Axiom Total Eclipse Hex finally out, we can officially declare the best Axiom Hex for sale. Are the new runs in the Axiom Total Eclipse plastic the most stable? How do they compare to those in Prism Proton or even just your baseline Neutron runs of Hex? Keep reading below to get a good sense of what the best Axiom Hex is for your disc golf game.
How We Tested the Axiom Hex
A majority of our testing with all of the discs was done on the field. By doing the testing on the field we were able to keep all the variables to a minimum and reduce any chance of testing bias. The field also gave us ample space to test the Axiom Hex on multiple angles, giving us the best opportunity to test their true flight paths. Some of the testing and notes did come from playing rounds with the discs.
Which Axiom Hex’s Did We Test?
Below is a list of the Axiom Hex’s we tested for this comparison. While these don’t cover every Hex ever produced, this gives us a fairly good understanding of the discs as this covers much of MVP’s available premium plastics.
- Prism Proton Hex
- Total Eclipse Hex
- Eclipse Hex
- Neutron Hex

Axiom Hex Flight Numbers and Feel
The Axiom Hex is one of MVP’s most popular discs and most recently has become beloved by Simon Lizotte. It is a low-profile, extremely neutral mid-range that offers lots of control and plenty of glide. The closest competitors to the Axiom Hex are the Discraft Buzzz, Discraft MD1, Latitude 64 Fuse and many others.
Testing the Hex’s Flight Path on the Field
So, how does the Axiom Hex fly? Mentioned above, the Hex is a straight flying mid-range capable of holding any line it’s thrown on. For our testing, we threw the disc on hyzer, flat and some distance lines to understand its true flight. While there are many different angles and conditions to test out which Hex is the best, we found this to be good in seeing flight path differences.
The Hex performs relatively similar in all plastics on the hyzer line. When thrown on hyzer, the mid-range will usually hold a long sweeping angle before hitting the ground. Where an overstable disc such as the Pyro may crash quickly to the ground or a MVP Detour will float and fly straighter at the end of its flight, we found the Hex to be very true in its flight on hyzer.
Here’s how we tested the Hex’s in order of most stable to least stable:
- Total Eclipse Hex
- Eclipse Hex
- Prism Proton Hex
- Neutron Hex

The Total Eclipse Hex holds a similar line to all of the other Hex’s but tends to cut its flight short at the end of the flight. Given that the Total Eclipse and Eclipse plastics are highly durable, these may be excellent additions to ones bag as their overstable Hex option.
Straightest and Farthest Flying Hex
Long distance doesn’t always mean the best, but it may offer some benefit to those looking to maximize their mid-ranges without sacrificing control.
In testing, here’s how we sorted the Axiom Hex from most straight to most overstable:
- Neutron Hex (By a Large Margin)
- Prism Proton Hex
- Eclipse Hex
- Total Eclipse Hex

MVP’s neutron plastic isn’t baseline plastic but does offer the least resistance and rigidity compared to the other plastics. In a long-term test, we found that a fairly worn in Neutron Hex offers itself to hyzer flips and straight lines as easy as some understable mid-ranges do.
The furthest flying Hex is flight path dependent and may not fly the same for different players. Below is how sorted the farthest flying Hex when thrown with max power:
- Prism Proton Hex
- Neutron Hex
- Eclipse Hex
- Total Eclipse Hex

[/product]
This may vary differently for each player but we found when the Prism Proton Hex is thrown hard and turned over just slightly, it is able to hold the anhyzer line and still pan out at the end of its flight. The Neutron Hex may fly further in tailwinds as this plastic tends to turn the most at the end of its flight.
