Every disc golfer at some point asks themselves the age-old question; should I buy a portable basket? You know you want one, but you're not sure why! Maybe you just need some excuses to convince yourself to part with your hard-earned cash.
I'm Brad, a disc golfer who isn't good enough to make money playing, so instead I work for DGD. I'm here to convince you to part with your hard-earned cash.
Every disc golf playing friend I've ever had has ended up buying a basket for their yard, myself included. I can count 23 off the top of my head, several of which I helped facilitate the purchase!
The takeaway here is that sooner or later you're gonna end up getting one. It's because practice baskets are worth it. Why not get one now, seeing as you'll end up with one anyway? ;)

1 - Practice Putting at Home
This is the #1 reason to get a practice basket for your yard! The most important aspect of the sport is putting. Drive for show, putt for dough.
Having a basket at home is the only way to truly improve your putting. Spending 15 minutes a day with your basket and your putters produces consistency, accuracy, and most importantly confidence!
If you want to stop missing short and easy putts you need to practice, to practice you need a basket. Because missing 10-footers is just downright frustrating!
2 - Easy To Move
The best thing about portable baskets is that they're portable. Excuse me for stating the obvious.
You'd be surprised just how often you'll want to move your shiny new basket. Every time you mow, when the wind blows it over, and to create courses in your yard or at a park. Portable baskets can be easily disassembled for transport in the trunk of your car.

Moving your basket around helps you recreate different course scenarios. Practice uphill, downhill, and level putts. Position the basket behind pesky and challenging obstacles. All of this helps to recreate true course conditions further boosting your confidence!
3 - Cheaper
Most practice baskets are fairly affordable. If you were to go for a course-quality basket, you'd be looking upward of $400. The truth is that you can get a suitable basket for just over $100.
Take the Black Hole Lite as an example.

4 - Play Putting Games With Your Friends
Practicing your putting doesn't have to be a drag! There are a plethora of exciting, hilarious, and exhilarating putting games designed by pros and the disc golf community.
A ton of these games are made to be played by multiple people. When you're having your DG pals around for a BBQ, they'll have fun with the basket while the steaks are sizzling!

5 - Practice Approaches
When your yard is large enough to allow for shots over 100 feet, having a basket is awesome for practicing your approaches. I know that the basket is not imperative. You could aim at any object, but what I like to do is this...
Take your putters, and approach the basket from the distance you need practice in. Then, attempt to make the putt from where every approach landed. This method replicates real gameplay, and you may even throw it straight in!
6 - Invent Courses
Heading out to a park for the day with your family? Truth is you wish you were at a disc golf course. No worries, just take your basket down and chuck it into the trunk!
You'd be surprised how much fun you can have inventing courses at the places where there aren't any! You can also create some layouts on your own property if you have enough space.
7 - Get Kids Into the Sport
Disc golf is a great sport for kids. It's fun and it gets them outdoors. Most kids are very interested in "the thing dad does with the frisbees!” While they may not want to tag along on an 18-hole course for 3 hours, they will have great fun practicing with you in the backyard!
Conclusion
Still not convinced? I could give you some more reasons, but chances are I'd be making them up.
Having your own disc golf basket is by no means crucial, but it is highly beneficial! It will improve your game, increase your enjoyment of the sport, create endless fun for you and your friends, and encourage kids into the sport and the outdoors!
